Diploma Instructors Courses

These courses are one of the facilities of the SDF Dave Turton is most proud of.
Dave has always thought that the 'old' idea of only those with Black Belts could teach self-defence was ludicrous, and so the Diploma Courses were born. They have proven VERY popular and since their inception, (The SDF has awarded 100s of Diplomas producing some exceptional instructors with the understanding of good realistic self defence.)

We believe S D F Diploma Courses are unique in the martial arts and self-protection world.
For much too long it has been assumed that just because someone has reached Black Belt (or equivalent) level in a 'martial art', that this level automatically makes them a 'self-defence instructor as well, and that ONLY Black Belts can teach self-defence and self-protection. This isn't so, nor should it be!

Please make sure you understand that these Diplomas are not nor can ever be an instructor' qualification in ANY Martial Art. They are authorisations to TEACH BASIC SELF-DEFENCE & SELF-PROTECTION METHODS. That is all. The S D F Diploma Courses are designed for that purpose and ANYONE who meets the basic criteria can apply to take any or all of the Diploma Courses. You need NOT be of Black Belt status to become an Official SDF
Instructor.

However, there are certain aspects you will NOT be allowed to do until such time as you become qualified to do so, these are:Proper realistic self-protection and self-defence tuition should include at least 60% of the so-called 'soft skills', and cover the subjects of
"How to Teach" ... "The Theories & Principles of Self-Defence" etc.It isn't enough to just know and teach some physical techniques, especially so if the students are NOT martial arts students, but people from all walks of life who simply want to learn some methods of being safer.

Each Diploma Instructor's qualification allows you to TEACH that Level only. You may NOT issue Grading’s in that subject, however you can issue 'attendance' certificates.you can only teach the Course Contents as they are written down, with obvious allowances for 'individual personal approaches'.You can advertise that you are an instructor with the SDF, but may NOT state that you teach the SDF's own SDF Self-Defence System until such time as you qualify to do so.

So, what are the Criteria to apply to take one or more of these SDF Instructor's Diploma Courses?

1. You MUST be 18 years and over. This is totally due to our Insurer's restrictions.
2. You must have NO convictions or any violent crime.
3. You must give honest and complete details on the Diploma Instructor's Application Form. People will be mildly 'vetted' before being accepted on to any Diploma Courses.

That's it!
